During the late 19th century, Thornton Heath and Selhurst Park were still relatively rural areas outside the boundaries of central London. However, due to the expansion of the railways, these areas saw significant growth and development during this time. The arrival of the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway in the 1860s made the area more accessible to commuters, leading to the construction of new housing and the growth of local businesses.

Historical places of interest in the area include the Thornton Heath Pond, which was a central feature of the village green and provided water for the local farms and households. Additionally, the Selhurst Park estate was home to a number of notable families, including the bankers Rothschilds.

In terms of class, the area was predominantly working-class, with many residents working in the local brick-making and market gardening industries. However, the growth of new housing developments during this period also attracted middle-class residents to the area.

Whether you're a history buff, a cartography enthusiast, or simply looking for a unique piece of decor for your home or office, this map is sure to delight. It's a piece of history that you can own and enjoy for years to come.
