In 1888, the London boroughs of Fulham, Putney, Parsons Green, and Wandsworth were primarily residential areas inhabited by working-class families, although there were also some upper-middle-class households. Fulham, in particular, was known for its bustling market gardens and fruit orchards, as well as its thriving distilleries.

One of the most notable landmarks in the area was Fulham Palace, the historic residence of the Bishop of London. The palace had been home to the bishops since the 11th century and was surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens.

Another important institution was the Fulham Refuge Female Reformatory, a home for women who had been convicted of crimes and were seeking a fresh start. The home provided vocational training and rehabilitation services to help these women re-enter society.

Putney Bridge, which spanned the River Thames, was a popular spot for residents to enjoy recreational activities such as boating and fishing. The nearby Old Putney Bridge, which had been built in the 18th century, was also a popular destination for tourists.

Sandy End was a small but affluent neighborhood known for its elegant homes and quiet streets. Peterborough House, a stately mansion built in the 18th century, was a prominent landmark in the area.

The Town Meadow and Market Gardens were important sources of fresh produce for the local community. Hurlingham Park, a large public park, was a popular destination for outdoor activities such as cricket and football.

Watney's Distillery, located in Wandsworth, was a major employer in the area and produced a wide range of alcoholic beverages, including beer, gin, and whiskey.

Whether you're a history buff, a cartography enthusiast, or simply looking for a unique piece of decor for your home or office, this map is sure to delight. It's a piece of history that you can own and enjoy for years to come.
