In 1908, Battersea and Clapham were separate districts located in the southern part of London. Battersea was known for its industrial areas, while Clapham was more residential. One of the most prominent landmarks in Battersea was Battersea Power Station, which had recently been built and was a source of pride for the community.

St. Mary's Church in Battersea was a notable church in the area, built in the early 1700s and expanded in the 1800s. It was known for its impressive organ, which was considered one of the finest in the country.

Clapham was home to the famous Clapham Common, a large park that was popular with locals for picnics, sports, and other recreational activities. The park had been around for centuries and was a source of pride for the community.

Holy Trinity Church in Clapham was another prominent church in the area. Built in the mid-1800s, it was known for its beautiful architecture and impressive stained glass windows.

Both Battersea and Clapham were connected to the rest of London by several railway stations, including Battersea Park Station, Clapham Junction Station, and Wandsworth Road Station.
